From 4 – 10 October 2005 the world has celebrated the world animal week. World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species. Since then it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and has been widely celebrated in countries. Meanwhile in other parts of the world, WAD continued to grow.
During this special world animal week anniversary SAWO has organized different events to promote community awareness and participation of these important days for the first time in the history of civil war. SAWO organized a series of activities to celebrate this memorable week for the animals.The purpose of these activities was:

To help raise awareness of the communities in the areas SAWO visited. To educate people on responsible animal ownership by

reaching out to communities and offering support services.

SAWO believes that animals are sentient beings and deserve to be cared for and treated with compassion.
Since our financial Resources were limited only through voluntary contributions, the NGO was able to organize celebrating events in different locations of our ending year project operational area of Mogadishu city and Merca town of lower Shabbele region.

During the celebration, SAWO managed to fulfill the following:

Distribution of animal medicine to the people whose livelihood depends on the Animals to keep their animals in good health and avoid disease that attack Animals. Local residents welcomed SAWO’s step and acknowledged their Gratitude they have for SAWO. In the meantime they have requested from SAWO to sustain its relief and the work it has for the society.
Presentation of Somali Tradition aimed to raise awareness to make the people Comprehend the value of animal protection. During this, SAWO requested the Society to exercise good human-animal treatment Celebrations, which the people in the residence presented traditional dancing, tag war and young men Various Sports, including playing football, had also occurred in rural village where the inhabitants praised the organization for their effort. football, which has played a significant role in the Celebration of World Animal Week, to integrate the society together to create Better understanding of SAWO’s message of animal welfare to the people.

We have decided to devote our spare time to help the lives of animals. The animals are very dear to our hearts, and it saddens us whenever we learn of any cruelty, exploitation, and abuse toward them ’’ Said Mr. Chairman Heybe’’ Adding Animals are suffering every minute, every day...!. We need to show respect and to be compassionate to all beings. Like us, animals deserve fair treatment.

Since the foundation of SAWO organization, it has made tangible achievements by keeping animal welfare although there are cases animal rights violated which have been registered by SAWO.
